Should you repair or replace your aircon? The honest answer.

Most systems under ten years old are worth repairing. Most systems over fifteen with a compressor fault are not. In between, it depends on three things — and we'll tell you which applies to yours.

Repair it if:

  • The unit is under ~10 years
  • The fault is a part, gas or a clean
  • The repair is under about a third of a new system's price

Replace it if:

  • The compressor has failed on an older unit
  • It uses R22 refrigerant (no longer available)
  • You're paying for a second major repair in two years
  • Running costs matter and it's a 2-star unit

Our rule

We fix first. If we recommend replacing, it's because the numbers say so, not because it's a bigger job.

The credit

If we can't fix it and you buy a new system from us, the call-out is included in the price of the new system. You never pay twice for the same problem.

“recommended a great little unit for me - didn't try to up sell me to something I didn't need. I had asked him for his honest option and was willing to stretch the budget. He was also very quick. My husband and I were impressed.”
